About Boringdon Hall Hotel

Boringdon Hall is set in its own grounds on the edge of Dartmoor. Situated near Plymouth and Plymton the hotel combines the charm and ambiance of years gone by with modern comfort and a warm welcome.

There is character in abundance here with original architectural features retained such as deep walls, huge fireplaces and ornate ceilings. A variety of bedrooms, including a number of four-posters, are available. Dinner is served in the historic Gallery Restaurant, which overlooks the Great Hall.

History of Boringdon Hall

The history of Boringdon Hall stems from the Doomsday Book, where one of the earliest mentions of a permanent construction was recorded.

The name "Boringdon" comes from the Saxon "Burth-Y-Don" meaning "enchanted place on the hill".  Around 956 AD  King Edgar granted the Manor of Boringdon Wembury to St Peter of Plympton and so it belonged to the priory until the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539 by Henry VIII.

Today Boringdon Hall is one of the foremost hotels, banqueting and conference centres in the south West of England.
